Frequently asked questions

EV chargers are all we do. Everything you need to know about specialist EV charger installation in Melbourne's western and northern suburbs.

How much does EV charger installation cost in Melbourne? +

Most standard Level 2 home EV charger installations in Melbourne's western suburbs cost between $800 and $1,800 depending on the charger type, how far the circuit needs to run from your switchboard, and whether any switchboard work is required. We provide a completely free, itemised quote before any work begins.

Is the site assessment really free? +

Yes — completely free, no obligation. Many electricians charge $100–$200 for a callout. We don't. You get a full quote before deciding whether to proceed.

What's included in the quoted price? +

All labour, all materials (cable, conduit, circuit breaker, fittings), installation, testing and the Certificate of Electrical Safety. The only thing not included is the charger hardware for Tesla Wall Connectors — you source that from Tesla directly and we install it. Switchboard upgrades are quoted separately if required — we always identify this during the free assessment and never spring it on you on the day.

Are there government rebates for EV charger installation in Victoria? +

As of 2025, there is no direct Victorian government rebate for home EV charger installation. Some energy retailers offer smart charger incentives — we can advise on current offers when we quote.

How long does EV charger installation take? +

A standard Level 2 home EV charger installation takes 2–4 hours. If a switchboard upgrade is also required, allow 4–6 hours. We'll give you an accurate time estimate in your quote. See the full process →

Do I need to be home during installation? +

We ask that someone is home at the start so we can confirm site access and switchboard location. Once we've started, you don't need to supervise. We'll walk you through everything before we leave.

Will my power be cut during installation? +

Briefly, yes — typically 15–30 minutes while we work on the switchboard. We'll let you know in advance so you can save anything important on your devices.

Can I choose where the charger is mounted? +

Yes. We'll work with you to find the optimal location — typically on the wall nearest to where you park. We factor in cable run length, weatherproofing requirements and accessibility. We confirm the location with you before drilling anything.

Do I need a switchboard upgrade for an EV charger? +

Most homes in Melbourne's western suburbs built after 2000 do not need a switchboard upgrade. Tarneit, Truganina, Point Cook, Wyndham Vale and Craigieburn housing estates generally have modern switchboards with adequate capacity. Older homes — particularly pre-2000 properties in Hoppers Crossing and Werribee — sometimes have older ceramic fuse boards that need upgrading. We assess this free of charge during your quote.

How much does a switchboard upgrade cost alongside EV installation? +

A switchboard upgrade typically adds $800–$2,000 depending on the size of upgrade required. We always quote this separately and explain exactly what's needed and why — no surprises on the day.

What if my switchboard doesn't have a spare circuit? +

We have two options: load management (limiting the charger to work within existing capacity) or a partial switchboard upgrade to add capacity. We'll recommend the most cost-effective solution for your specific setup.

Which EV brands do you install chargers for? +

All of them — Tesla, BYD (Atto 3, Seal, Dolphin), Hyundai (Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6), Kia (EV6, EV9), MG (ZS EV, MG4), Volvo (EX30, EX40), BMW (iX, i4, i7), Polestar (2, 3, 4) and any other EV sold in Australia. All modern Australian EVs use a Type 2 or CCS2 port — we install compatible home chargers for all of them.

What's the difference between a Level 2 charger and a Tesla Wall Connector? +

A Level 2 home charger is a universal AC charging unit (Type 2 plug) that works with any EV — we can supply and install these. A Tesla Wall Connector is Tesla's own home charging unit — now compatible with all EVs via a CCS2 adapter. You source it from Tesla directly (~$780) and we handle all the electrical installation. Both deliver similar charging speeds for home use.

What charging speed will I get at home? +

With a standard single-phase 7.4kW Level 2 charger, you'll add approximately 25–40km of range per hour — so overnight you get 200–320km. On a typical Melbourne west commute of 40–55km per day, that's more than enough to start each day with a full battery.

Do I get a Certificate of Electrical Safety? +

Yes — every installation includes a Certificate of Electrical Safety (CES) issued by our A-Grade licensed electrician on the day of installation. This is a legal requirement in Victoria. Keep it with your property documents — you'll need it for home insurance and when you sell your home.

Are your electricians licensed in Victoria? +

Yes. All our electricians hold a current Victorian A-Grade electrical licence. More importantly, EV charger installation is all we do — we're not generalists who do a charger install between ceiling fan jobs. Every installation we complete is an EV charger. That specialist focus is verifiable: ask us how many EV charger installs we've completed this month.

Will my home insurance cover the installation? +

Your home insurance covers the installed charger as a fixed electrical fixture once installed by a licensed electrician. The Certificate of Electrical Safety we provide is the key document your insurer will want. Important: unlicensed installation can void your home insurance — always use an A-Grade licensed electrician.

Which suburbs do you cover? +

We cover Tarneit, Truganina, Hoppers Crossing, Wyndham Vale, Werribee, Point Cook, Williams Landing, Manor Lakes, Craigieburn, Mickleham, Roxburgh Park, Laverton, Altona Meadows, Derrimut and surrounding suburbs. See our full service areas →

Is there a travel fee for western suburbs? +

No. Our team is based in Melbourne's western corridor — there's no travel surcharge for any suburb in our service area. City-based electricians often charge $50–$150 to reach Tarneit or Craigieburn. We don't.

How quickly can you get to my suburb? +

For most suburbs — Tarneit, Truganina, Hoppers Crossing, Wyndham Vale, Craigieburn — we can typically schedule an installation within the same week. Mention any urgency in your quote request and we'll do our best to accommodate.
