Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about home EV charger installation in Melbourne's western and northern suburbs.

Pricing & quotes

Most standard Level 2 home EV charger installations in Melbourne's western and northern suburbs land between $800 and $1,800, depending on the charger, how far the cable runs from your switchboard, and whether any switchboard work is needed. We'll send a clear quote up front and flag anything that could shift the price before we start — never after.

Nope. Tell us your suburb, car and a couple of details and we'll email a price guide — no call-out fee, no obligation, and nobody turns up on your doorstep uninvited.

All labour, all materials (cable, conduit, circuit breaker, fittings), installation, testing and the Certificate of Electrical Safety. The only thing not included is the charger hardware if you choose to supply your own.

As of 2025 there is no direct Victorian government rebate for home EV charger installation. Some energy retailers offer smart-charger incentives — we can advise on current options for your setup.

The installation

A standard Level 2 home EV charger installation takes 2–4 hours. If a switchboard upgrade is also required, allow 4–6 hours. We give you an accurate time estimate with your quote.

We ask that someone is home at the start so we can confirm site access and switchboard location. Once we've started you don't need to supervise — we'll walk you through everything at the end.

Briefly, yes — typically 15–30 minutes while we work on the switchboard. We let you know in advance so you can save anything important on your devices.

Yes. We'll work with you to find the optimal location — typically on the wall nearest where you park. We factor in cable-run length, weatherproofing and a tidy finish.

Switchboards & power

Most homes in the western and northern suburbs built after 2000 do not need a switchboard upgrade. Newer estates like Tarneit, Truganina, Point Cook, Wyndham Vale and Craigieburn are usually ready to go. We confirm this when we quote.

A switchboard upgrade typically adds $800–$2,000 depending on the size of upgrade required. We always quote this separately and explain exactly what is needed and why.

We have two options: load management (limiting the charger to work within existing capacity) or a partial switchboard upgrade to add capacity. We recommend the most cost-effective path for your home.

With a standard single-phase 7.4kW Level 2 charger you add roughly 25–40km of range per hour — so overnight you get 200–320km. For most Melbourne drivers that means waking up to a full battery every day.

Brands, licensing & areas

All of them — Tesla, BYD (Atto 3, Seal, Dolphin), Hyundai (Ioniq 5/6), Kia (EV6, EV9), MG (ZS EV, MG4), Volvo (EX30, EX40), BMW (iX, i4, i7), Polestar (2, 3, 4) and more. EV chargers are all we do, so your car is never a first for us.

A Level 2 home charger is a universal AC charging unit (Type 2 plug) that works with any EV — we can supply and install these. The Tesla Wall Connector is Tesla-specific hardware you supply; we install and certify it for you.

Yes — every electrician we work with holds a current Victorian A-Grade electrical licence, and they install EV chargers all the time. Your car won't be anyone's first.
